Brightlemon were invited by Plan International, to develop two social networking web site projects linking schools in the UK with those in Africa and elsewhere in the world. An "online penpal scheme" for the 21st century enables schools in Kenya, Malawi, Sierra Leone and more recently China to interact with each other.
Plan Make The Link
Plan Make The Link connects children globally via a network of forums, profiles and blogs. Over 100 UK primary and secondary schools are now linking with their peers in Africa, South America, Philippines and helping to spread cultural awareness, and further curriculum development. The Plan MTL site integrates blogs, forums and profiles, enabling users and schools to expand their cultural awareness. The system is easy to use and is administered overall by Plan UK, with each school having access to their own user accounts. The project has been running since 2008, and is continuing to see an increase. Thanks to Brightlemon, over 100 UK primary and secondary schools are now able to link up with their peers in Africa.
