Internet Service Providers' Association, UK (ISPA, UK)
ISPA, UK are the number one trade association for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country. Their members include AOL, Freeserve, British Telecom and almost all of the major ISPs.
In a combined effort by Brightlemon and Parker, Wayne and Kent the ISPA site was redesigned to give ISPA members a single point of access to the many benefits they receive.
The ISPA site was a perfect candidate for a redesign having started out as an online brochure consisting of static html pages. Over the course of a few years this grew to over 250 pages spanning topics on everything from Data Protection to Viruses and Spam to Internet Security. Obviously the old design was not built to cope with the huge volume of information now available to members.
The first step was to reorganise the site content into logical, intuitive sections. Once this was done it was clear what the main sections would be on the home page. Involving the client in this step of the process proved to be vital in achieving the objective on a number of levels.
A checklist of existing problems to solve helped to mould the plan for implementing both the front-end design and site back-end. Features added included dynamically generated content, a Googletm search facility, a quick jump menu, password protected areas for members only content and numerous online forms e.g. to apply for ISPA membership. The current site is now 500 pages strong and still growing.
The redesign was so successful that the site received a New Media Age award ahead of stiff competition (including the BBC).
