Single Parent Action Network
It is known that separated or divorced families are on the rise. In 2010, 119,589 couples divorced which was a 4.9% increase since 2009 – the data is yet to be released for 2011 but there is expected increase. With these separated families comes numerous issues, from financial decisions to psychological problems, single parents can suffer in many ways.
One Space is a website commissioned by the Single Parents Action Network (SPAN) which offers expert advice and other resources for single parents. The website acts as virtual supports group – a lifeline to many single parents.
One Space came to BrightLemon to increase the level of user engagement and to create effective resources to help support single parents.
BrightLemon achieved this by building a set of educational online courses and a new design. This increased traffic to the site and exposed over 16,000 users to key information.
Both SPAN and the users of One Space have voiced how effective BrightLemon’s updates have been.

Life Check Tool Designed to provide information for single parents, the diagnostic tool gives users tailored advice based on their answers.
The user is asked to complete 10 questions which then result in a pie chart, showing prioritised areas of need in their life.
Support and information will then be shown relevant to the user’s situation. For example, if a single parent is struggling with finances and answers questions to reflect this, then they will be shown resources that will help them manage money.

The Virtual Learning Centre As a single parent, you can participate in courses which help your situation on the One Space website. Involving interactive activities and questions, the courses aim to make the user reflect on how and why they behave in a certain way. Courses include life coaching, confidence growing, the freedom programme and CV building.
Called ‘The virtual learning centre’, the user is able to select their course and complete it within their own time. Once complete, the results can be sent to a practitioner for review – further feedback can then be provided.

One Space aims to be the first port of call for single parents online.
It offers an online community for single parents with support from experienced parenting facilitators and brings together essential information, interactive learning games, multi-media content, links to other support organisations and news.
The online groups also act as a support group, where people can gain information and support from others who have been through similar experiences - a lifeline to many who unexpectedly find themselves to be single parents
