Business in the Community’s (BiTC) aim is to encourage organisations to create more sustainable communities by working together on social and environmental issues. After nearly 30 years of work, the landscape had changed and BitC identified that online community was now an integral part of successfully promoting community work.
Funded by Fujitsu and the Big Lottery Fund, BitC wanted their new online community to be a knowledge hub that would inspire people to get involved, engage existing members to contribute to discussions and blogs, and expand BitC's member base. In addition, their member base would have greater access to leadership and personal development opportunities and be able to draw on a community of encouragement and support.
We used Drupal to create a simpler site structure that meant users could easily navigate the site. This would ultimately boost the user experience as well as visitor numbers. We created a site that could host advanced profiles for members and key stakeholders, act as an information hub for these users, and provide community features that would strengthen opportunities for networking and collaboration. Fujitsu and BiTC had clear metrics for success from the outset so it was important that site managers and BiTC staff could review Google Analytics in detail.
