Paul and I were fortunate enough to be invited (thanks Lucy!) to Google UK (http://www.google.co.uk) a couple of weeks ago to discuss a new concept called Plings (http://www.plings.net). I was impressed with the Google office - vast building, kiosk based online visitor registration (no fiddling about with signing in on bits of paper here) and a funky old-fashioned telephone box slap bang in the middle of one of the fourth floor offices... would not have expected any less from the world's biggest brand...! Anyway... back to Plings - it's all about giving young people access to interesting things happening in their area... (Plings = Places to go and Things to do). It's run by some knowledgable guys from Substance http://www.substance.coop/ who organised a great afternoon's discussion. Plings is basically an API (Application Programming Interface) which means it is a set of tools allowing you to use their service - not a website itself. For more about the developer day at Google visit http://blogs.plings.net/?cat=298 If you're a developer and want to work on something interesting and worthwhile take a look at the Plings API - all you need is:
- a platform (like Drupal)
- an API (like Plings)
- a good idea
Ok the last one is obviously the trickiest(!) but the first two can be easily found at http://www.drupal.org and http://www.plings.net Head over to the newly founded Plings group at Drupal.org - see http://groups.drupal.org/plings
